Women Leadership Development (WLEDE) was honored to be part of a two-day engagement organized by the National Coalition of Human Rights Defenders Uganda (NCHRDU) at Protea Hotel. The event brought together state actors and human rights defenders to discuss critical issues related to the promotion and protection of human rights in Uganda.
The session was graced by presentations from the Center for Civil and Political Rights (CCPR), represented by a Geneva-based expert from the UN Human Rights Committee. One of the key highlights of the engagement was the presentation on the National Strategy for the Implementation of Human Rights Recommendations, which emphasized the need for a collaborative effort between government entities and civil society organizations to ensure accountability and adherence to human rights standards.
The Parliament Human Rights Committee also shared valuable insights on how legislative frameworks can further the human rights agenda in Uganda.
WLEDE was ably represented by Edith Ssali, who played an instrumental role in sharing WLEDE’s perspective on promoting gender equality and strengthening women’s leadership in human rights advocacy. Edith’s contributions were highly appreciated, reinforcing WLEDE’s commitment to advancing the protection and empowerment of women and girls in Uganda.
This event underscored the importance of collaboration between civil society and state actors in ensuring the successful implementation of human rights policies, with a focus on inclusion, accountability, and protection of human rights defenders.
