Unite for Equality: Amplifying Voices to End Gender-Based Violence

December 6, 2024

Theme: “Unite to End GBV: Amplifying Voices, Driving Change”

The Women Leadership Development (WLEDE) organization stands in solidarity with the global movement against gender-based violence as we mark the 2024 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. This year’s theme, “Unite to End GBV: Amplifying Voices, Driving Change,” calls upon all of us—individuals, communities, and organizations—to strengthen our collective efforts in addressing the systemic and cultural issues that perpetuate violence.

Why This Matters

Gender-based violence remains a grave human rights violation that threatens lives, disrupts families, and impedes progress toward gender equality. In Uganda and beyond, women and girls face unacceptable risks of domestic violence, child marriage, sexual harassment, and economic disempowerment. This campaign serves as a rallying cry to amplify the voices of survivors, dismantle harmful norms, and drive transformative change in policies, practices, and societal attitudes.

WLEDE’s Commitment

At WLEDE, we are dedicated to creating a society where women and girls live free from violence, with equal opportunities to thrive. Through advocacy, capacity building, and grassroots initiatives, we work to empower women and youth to lead in their communities and influence positive change.

This year, we are focusing on:

  • Advocacy: Pushing for robust implementation of policies and laws that protect women and girls.
  • Community Awareness: Hosting dialogues and campaigns to challenge harmful cultural and societal norms.
  • Survivor Support: Providing safe spaces, psychosocial services, and economic empowerment programs to rebuild lives.

A Call to Action

Ending gender-based violence requires united action. We invite you to join us in this critical fight by:

  • Raising awareness within your networks.
  • Challenging harmful stereotypes and practices.
  • Supporting survivors and advocating for justice.
  • Collaborating with WLEDE to amplify solutions and drive sustainable change.

Together, we can make homes, communities, and nations safer for all. This is not just a campaign; it is a call to action for a better and more equitable world.

Let’s unite to end GBV—because everyone deserves to live a life free from violence.
