The Women Leadership Development and Empowerment (WLEDE) organization has been enhancing women’s participation in local governance and mainstreaming gender in party politics through the Strengthening Women Participation in Local Governance to Improve Service Delivery (SWOPA) project, supported by the African Women Development Fund (AWDF). As we prepare for the fourth bi-annual interactive radio talk shows, we aim to engage the community on crucial issues in education and health. These call-in sessions will be hosted on three widely listened-to local radio stations, providing a platform for leaders to discuss and inform the community about the status of various issues. The discussions will focus on analyzing the 2023 Primary Leaving Examinations results, identifying factors affecting primary education in Lira District, and addressing challenges faced by Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in accessing education and health services. Additionally, the sessions will promote sustainable and inclusive methods for all children to access education and health services, and explore the root causes of early pregnancies and marriages in the community. Through these talk shows, we aim to increase awareness, foster community engagement, and stimulate policy discussions to improve education and health systems in Lira District.
