FACT SHEET ON WOMEN LCI CHAIRPERSON ELECTIONS IN UGANDA 2018

The Term of office of LCI chairpersons elected in 1996, expired in May 2001 under the one party governance then, in Uganda. Notably, the Constitution of Uganda in Article 181 (4) states that local government elections will be held every five years. However, the Electoral Commission held elections for LCI and II in July, 2018. Therefore, Ugandans went for the polls to elect Local Council I and II after a period of twenty-two (22) years.
