16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence is an annual international campaign to challenge violence against women and girls running from 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, to 10 December, Human Rights Day. initiated in 1991 by the first Women's Global Leadership Institute, Since 1991, more than 6,000 organizations from approximately 187 countries have participated in the campaign. As the world continues to call for robust and decisive action in response to this unprecedented crisis on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. In the run up to the 2021 Generation Equality Forum

An estimated one in three women will experience physical or sexual violence in her lifetime. GBV undermines the health and autonomy of survivors and often contributes to a lifetime of negative outcomes, including adverse sexual and reproductive health consequences such as unintended pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections.

The focus for the 2020 Global 16 Days Campaign is to increase efforts to amplify the voices of women workers in the informal economy while continuing to end all forms of GBV in public and private spaces under our 2020 global theme: "Orange the World: Fund, Respond, Prevent, Collect!"
