WLEDE is a non-profit organisation established in October 2012 to develop leadership capacity, and make pro-active women and youth leaders to enable them contribute and sustain the development of the nation through good governance and respecting human dignity.

The day was introduced in 1999, by the United Nations General Assembly to be commemorated on August 12th every year. On this day, governments and citizens across the world come through various awareness campaigns, community concerts, and events to bring to notice the socio-economic and socio-political issues that the youth in every nation face. Events to celebrate International Youth Day 2021 will take place all around the world albeit virtually to further curb the spread of the Coronavirus.

 This year's theme is "Transforming Food Systems: Youth Innovation for Human and Planetary Health"
